1989 Earthquake Disaster      (Please Scroll Down)

5:04 PM - October 17, 1989

It all started so quickly, and seemed to go on and on.  Actually, it did continue well past the initial 15 seconds. There were the aftershocks that occurred for many days afterward, and then there was the digging out, the clearing of debris, and the reconstruction (that still isn't completed on the Downtown Mall as of April, 2008).

Rusty's shop wasn't spared, and was one of many buildings that had to be basically rebuilt from the ground up.  On this page you will see a few of the images that were taken to document the whole ordeal.

Someone else might have just called it quits, but not Rusty.  Upsetting as it was to lose everything after only being in business for a few years, Rusty took a deep breath, assessed what was gone and what was left, and plowed on and put his business back together over the next 4-5 months.

As you scroll down this page, you will see some of the images taken after the building fell apart, the clearing of the debris, and the reconstruction.
